Provincetown awakes from its winter nap in April with the sound of construction hammers and saws competing with flocks of newly arrived birds. Whales start returning to our waters and can often be seen from area beaches in April and of course Provincetown’s glorious gardens start to come alive.
April 1 – The Provincetown Pilgrim Monument and Museum reopens for the season. This is the tallest granite structure in America and was built over 100 years ago to commemorate the landing of the Pilgrims in Provincetown Harbor 400 years ago in 1620 before they departed for Plymouth. You can now access the monument from Bradford Street on their new funicular. Enjoy the historical museum in the base and climb to the top of the monument for a spectacular view. On a clear day you can see all the way to Boston!
April 13 – Dolphin Fleet Whale Watching boats begin for the season. Provincetown is the best spot on the East Coast for whale watching. In April you can often see 50% of the world’s population of the endangered Atlantic Right Whales in our area waters as they migrate from the Caribbean to the Canadian Maritimes. Humpback and Fin Whales also return to our waters in April and stay until October feeding in Cape Cod Bay.
April 19 – 21 – Gays For Patsy Annual Spring Stomp A gay country and western hoedown.
